Read Through the BIBLE in One Year!

// January 2nd, 2014 // Comments Off // Announcements

Well it’s that time of year that we all start talking about Reading through the Bible in a year. I’ll admit…I have fallen off that wagon a LOT. But it won’t keep me from renewing a commitment to a discipline that I know can change my life and others. So…I’m trying a new one this year with my wife called “The Bible Eater” and I invite you to come along for the ride with me!  Let me point out some of the highlights to this plan:
*  There are four days “Off” per month.  That allows you some time for catching up or as I like to do – use Sundays to focus exclusively on the main scripture in the sermon.
*  You read between 1 and 3 Old Testament books per quarter in a single sitting.  These books are marked in BLUE.  It’s helpful to read a book a chapter at a time but sometimes we need to read the book in its entirety to see the “big picture”.  The quarterly format also helps for encouragement to “catch up”.  If you are like me, a plan that allows you to just skip over chapters when you fall behind is stressful.  How can I just pass over chunks of a book with stories in a sequential order??
*  Finally my favorite!  All chapters in the Bible are of importance but some are more crucial to understanding the overall narrative of God’s redemptive story, our salvation.  These chapters are highlighted in RED.  I will look forward to really digesting these chapters every month.
So if you are ready for the challenge, check out the link below, print it out and tuck it in the front of the greatest novel of all time!

Reading the Bible is central to the Christian life because knowing Christ in Scripture is the means to magnifying Christ in life.

ADVENT – JOYFUL PREPARATION – December 11th/15th

// December 17th, 2013 // Comments Off // Teaching Notes

I am going to try and utilize the TEACHING NOTES category on this site to provide you with a recap of the previous week’s teaching at youth group…..that way if you missed a week, fell asleep while I was talking, or just wanted to see the highlights again to encourage and strengthen your spiritual walk – here it is!

Adventus is latin for “coming.”  During the season of Advent Christians remember the coming of Jesus Christ in human flesh (John 1:14) but Christians can also draw on the second coming of Christ.

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

How do we wait?  In waiting, we prepare – like preparing the dinner table or getting ready for bedtime.  Advent is a time to prepare our hearts.  Joy to the world…..let every heart prepare him room.
